Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (MVPS) is a disease which is diagnosed now very frequently after the advent of echocardiography. The association between MVPS and myself dates back to 1974 when I was doing my first clinical year(III MBBS) in Tirunelveli Medical College at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. During my initial examination of cardiac related symptom patients, I have noted some abnormal sounds and trying to rule out Mitral stenosis and usually it would be rejected by the teachers as an imagination.

While I was a  House surgeon in 1977, once again I was trying to investigate the patients whom I felt was having Mitral stenosis and landed with no results and only landed with comments from the other people including my classmates because of the  MVPS concept not existing at that time and also non availability of ECHO.
