Negligence by doctors in treating a patient – leading to loss of lives, leading to permanent disability, predisposing to future risk factors, affecting the longevity of the patient, causing emotional disability, etc are all punishable under Indian law. Doctors should follow medical ethics and legal lawful procedures in every step of the treatment.
For example - any hospital not handing over the medical case sheets updated to their patients is contrary to law and therefore, a suit can be instituted for that.
