In spite of the success of the statins in the treatment of Hyperlipidemia, a new class of agents are recently introduced that act by the different mechanism (PCSK9) as Alirocumab. Currently, such agents are indicated for intolerant to statins.

The only disadvantage of this group of agents is their high cost.
