Researchers from Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of New Mexico has developed a vaccine that will be able to lower the Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) level and thus reduce the risk of cardiovascular ailments. LDL cholesterol is commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol; high levels of LDL cholesterol can cause atherosclerosis, a condition where the arteries get blocked by the formation of plaque inside the arterial wall, and thus increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke and heart disease which are the leading cause of death in the world. People with the cholesterol level above normal poses as twice as the risk of heart attack than one with the normal level.
