In order to foster competition and improve health services in the government hospitals, Niti Aayog, along with the health ministry will rank the district hospitals on the basis of their performance on health indicators. The decision to rank the hospitals was taken as there was no comprehensive system to assess their performance based on measurable health outcomes after allocating huge amounts of money to these hospitals. The performance ranking will include patient’s feedback to achieve patient satisfaction score.
The performance indicators which will be measured include: Doctors per OPD Number of laboratory tests per technician Stock out rate of essential drugs Bed occupancy rate C-section rate Blood bank replacement rate Rate of post-surgical infection in the hospital.
