The National Medical Commission (NMC) is set to revise its guidelines on live surgery broadcasts to make them clearer, more practical, and ethically sound. India is planning to ban the promotion and marketing of medical devices and companies during educational live surgeries, said NMC Chairman. The move aims to prevent any form of commercialization or undue influence in medical education while upholding patient welfare and ensuring ethical medical practices.

Under the current Supreme Court mandated norms, live surgeries cannot be used to promote the surgeon, hospital, or any product brand, and surgeons are barred from having financial interests in the devices or equipment used.
