The health and Family Minister recently stated that 156 Hospitals in almost 27 districts of Odisha have no doctors. Maximum district hospitals are without doctors. The AYUSH doctors were posted in different hospitals against the sanctioned posts but these posts are lying vacant. These AYUSH doctors are appointed on contractual basis, but the ministry clarified that the government has no plan to train the AYUSH doctors to prescribe allopathic medicine thus these seats are vacant. It was also observed that 50% of posts of allopathic doctors are lying vacant.
As per the guidelines 6,536 allopathic doctors and 25,667 beds are required to provide medical aid to the people. The government is also planning to set up 18 specialist hospitals in the state.
