Shocking statistics of India: one-third of Indian women and one-fifth of Indian men suffer from migraine. Approximately 38% of migraine patients need preventive therapy, but only 3%-13% currently use it . Therefore, The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) has published guideline for pharmacologic treatment for episodic migraine prevention in adults. This article gives a brief overview of the guideline.

Migraine is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. The annual years of healthy life lost per 100,000 people from migraine in India have increased by 11.4% since 1990.
