On Oct 24, governments and communities worldwide will mark World Polio Day, which is organised by Rotary International to raise support for the eradication of polio. On this day, there will be a live-streamed global status update on the progress of the fight to end polio completely. According to WHO report, Pakistan accounts for 80% of polio cases. In what is a serious threat to India, Pakistan has recorded 206 cases of paralysis caused by wild polio virus in 2014. This is the highest number of cases on record by October in Pakistan in its history.

Nineteen new wild polio virus type 1 (WPV1) cases — the deadliest strain were reported in the past week in Pakistan.
