Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) is a rare inherited childhood condition, where the development of the kidneys and liver is abnormal. Impairment of cognitive functions are frequently reported in children with ARPKD. This article briefly describes risk factors associated with neurocognitive dysfunction in children with ARPKD. Previous studies have suggested the association of cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with kidney disease.
