Poor Postoperative Analgesia on Next day of surgery. Because of undue fears of surgeons. Many patients complain -- On the day of surgery , Anaesthesia and Analgesia are Wonderful absolutely no pain. But on next day and later, pain was excruciating - Surgeon and nurse gives injection, which reduces pain only to a little extent , and for a little while. Later Excruciating pain . Why is this happening ?
1) On the day of surgery - Anaesthesia drugs manage 50 % of pain , so little analgesics are sufficient. 2) But on the next day - Anaesthesia is gone . So , more doses, more frequent doses are required- according to assessment of pain . 3) Opioids ( Butorphanol is safest and potent ) + Smooth muscle relaxants ( visceral Analgesia) like Buscopan + NSAIDS like diclofenac SR , Brufen , etc -- shud be given together, for a good quality Analgesia. 4) Given alone , these drugs are…
