Inappropriate management of pain can lead to complications and prolonged rehabilitation. Hence, monitoring of pain relief is increasingly becoming an important postoperative quality measure. Recent advances in surgical procedures address the issue of pain management.

This article thus outlines these recent advances for effective pain management in postoperative settings. Appropriate pain relief leads to shortened hospital stays, reduced hospital costs, and increased patient satisfaction.
