Despite the risks, many people with diabetes will fast during Ramadan. Thus it is important to individualize diabetes management during Ramadan which includes Pre-Ramadan assessment and education, specific nutrition plan and medication adjustment during Ramadan, and medication readjustment in Post-Ramadan follow up. Pre-Ramadan diabetes education should focus on risk quantification, blood glucose monitoring, fluids and dietary advice, medication adjustments, exercise advice, and when to break the fast.
