Proactive surgical procedures can effectively manage the diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) by adjusting mechanics of the foot. For the first time in the UK, a proactive surgical approach comes without the potential complications and is performed at a significantly lower cost. The percutaneous procedure was performed under local anesthetic by an orthopedic surgeon , while 14 patients were treated conservatively with the best medical and podiatric management. The surgery was aimed to remove the pressure on the ulcerated region to accelerate healing.
