A probe has been ordered into police action against protesting MBBS interns at a government medical college in Bhopal after at least four interns suffered injuries when water cannons were used during their protest over a stipend hike. Hundreds of interns protested on September 7 over their longstanding demand to increase the monthly stipend from the current ₹14,437 to ₹30,000. As they planned a march to the Chief Minister’s residence, police used water cannons against the protesters, with visuals of the action appearing online. The protesters also alleged that police later resorted to a baton charge as they continued their march near the campus.
