Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common disease that requires prompt diagnosis and management. It is a significant cause of morbidity and the third most common cause of cardiovascular mortality. In patients with acute PE, thrombolytic therapy is used to dissolve the embolic burden and improve cardio-respiratory hemodynamics. For the success of this therapy, careful risk stratification for patient selection is critical.
