The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission has ordered a private nursing facility in Barasat to pay Rs. 10 lakh as compensation after finding lapses in care that led to a maternal death. The decision was issued under provisions that permit monetary penalties when medical negligence results in loss of life. The incident occurred in 2019 and involved a 25-year-old woman who had been receiving routine prenatal care at the facility. She was admitted for childbirth and delivered her baby earlier in the day.

However, shortly after delivery, she reportedly developed severe complications. According to the complaint, no physician assessed her condition during this critical period, and she died later that evening.
