Of the 23,000 cases and 32 deaths confirmed till July 16, 11,581 cases and 20 deaths have been in Kerala. Four of the five states with the highest cases and deaths are in south India. In the past year 2016, around 1.30 lakh cases and 245 deaths were reported across the country as per the data provided by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
