Patients with chronic coronary syndrome often have overlapping risk factors for both ischemic and bleeding events. However, the combined effects of these factors have been less studied in contemporary real-world settings. A study published in Clinical Research in Cardiology evaluated the associations of six established risk factors with ischemic and major bleeding events. Among 24,051 patients, 59% had two or more risk factors.
During a median follow-up of 3.7 years, 15.0% experienced ischemic events and 8.6% experienced major bleeding events. For ischemic events, the risk factors were chronic kidney disease (hazard ratio 1.70), diabetes (1.66), multivessel disease (1.56), age β₯65 years (1.50), prior acute myocardial infarction (1.48), and prior bleeding (1.32).
