The vice president urged that rural posting should be made mandatory for fresh MBBS graduates to curb the shortage of medical practitioners in rural areas. While inaugurating the 15 th World Rural Health Conference, which is being held in India for the first time, vice president discussed the present scenario of medical care in rural areas. He stated that, “ A possible solution to address the shortage of doctors in rural areas could be mandatory posting of fresh MBBS graduates in rural areas before granting them their first promotion ”.
He added, “ It requires willingness and commitment on the part of doctors and paramedical personnel to serve in rural areas as most prefer to work in urban areas ”.
