Maharashtra state government by amending the  Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) Act of 1965 on on 13th August 2014 has now made it mandatory for both UG and PG medical students to serve the one year bond compulsorily. Now they cannot get away by paying the bond money. Earlier, the doctors passing out of government medical colleges could get away without doing their compulsory rural service by paying the bond money. There was no legal provision in place to hold the students back to serve the bond period.

The new amendment ensures the students passing out of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences have to serve in rural areas as per the bond. The new provision provides that these doctors would not be able to register themselves with the council for private practice until they have served the bond period. Do you support this decision?
