Health has three dimensions namely physical, mental, and social (WHO). Mere absence of ill-health does not make an individual’s health complete. It appears that social well being is not just one of the dimensions of health but a quintessential one. Physical and mental health have been studied extensively. But societies the world over have not bothered to study properly the importance of social conditions in providing health. Poverty and illiteracy are the two important factors that come in the way of creating a healthy society.
A just society will not allow poverty to exist. Nobel laureate X has portrayed poverty as a denial of opportunity. Rampant illiteracy is due to the denial of opportunity to the majority.
