5- years back subspecialties in ophthalmology were almost non-existent. So, an ophthalmologist would almost do all the procedures say both ANT and post segment stuff would operate cataract glaucoma do DCRS squints etc. By the passage of time, recent advances took place in the field of ophthalmology and there was mushrooming of subspecialties in the form of Lasik surgeon, phaco glaucoma oculoplasty, andneuro-ophthalmology.
This will definitely help the patient and will ensure best possible treatment but the big question is that every subspecialist has to take a proper training attend workshops has to get both theortical and practical training and fulfil all the standards of respective subspecialties.
