A surgeon based in Kolkata has come under scrutiny after the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) reportedly held him prima facie responsible for medical negligence in a case involving the death of a 42-year-old man. According to reports, the council has initiated disciplinary proceedings and asked the surgeon to explain his position within three weeks of receiving the formal notice. The matter stems from an incident in February 2024, when the patient was taken to a private clinic with severe abdominal pain.

He was subsequently diagnosed with appendicitis, but his family later alleged that the planned surgical intervention was not performed immediately and was instead carried out only after a two-day delay.
