The US FDA has approved a hybrid closed loop diabetes management device for pediatric patients. The device has exclusive features of automatically monitoring glucose levels and inject basal insulin doses with little or no input from users or caregivers. This is a first-of-a-kind legally marketed device for patients aged 2 to 6 years that can automatically adjust insulin delivery depending on continuous glucose monitor values.
Patients with type 1 diabetes have to monitor their glucose levels throughout the day consistently and inject insulin with a pen, syringe, or pump to maintain adequate glucose levels.
