The 70th World Health Assembly (WHA), held in Geneva in May 2017, provided a platform to discuss the role of anesthesia and surgery, inviting views from around the world. World Federation Of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) and Lifebox, which are growing group of organisations working to improve access to safe anesthesia and safe surgery held a side-event at the WHA entitled ‘What next for surgery and anesthesia? Civil society & global solutions’. This event explored the future of global surgery and anesthesia.

One of the important focus points of this event was also to discuss the importance of human resources for health.
