A doctor was held guilty for negligence and deficiency in services with outdated treatment to a woman having severe falciparum malaria with more than 15%RBCs infected.patient was conscious with normal BP and pulse rate at time of admission. Exchanged blood transfusion was given to reduce parasites load in blood. Patient's conditions deteriorated with a reduction in urinary output and BP came down to 70 mmHg. Nephrologist was consulted who advised for starting quinine treatment. Patient's relative doctor who was at distant place was against quinine treatment as inotropes were already given in drip.

He advised shifting of patient to some other hospital which could not be possible and patient died. My query:- was treatment really outdated? Whether quinine treatment was justified or there can be better option. What should be rational approach in this case. Kindly share.
