I find it very frustrating that health insurance companies insist that patients submit their original medical records when they submit their claim for reimbursement. Ideally, after processing the claim, if the insurance company returned the medical records back to the patient, this would be fine. However, they don't do this, and just end up junking the records .
Not only is this a complete waste of valuable medical information , I think this must be illegal as well, because the records are the property of the patient, so what gives the insurer the right to destroy them ? Patients keep quiet , because they do not have the ability to do battle with the insurance company. What can we do to stop health insurance companies from getting away which this kind of senseless high-handed behaviour?
