Liver diseases account for approximately 2 million deaths per year worldwide with liver cirrhosis as the leading cause of death due to liver diseases. Hepatocellular carcinoma also has an annual global incidence of over half a million , with a 5-year survival rate of 10% . Although these numbers continue to increase at an alarming rate, they highlight the importance of improving public health measures, given that most cases with liver diseases are preventable. World Liver Day is observed on 19th April every year to raise awareness about liver-related diseases.
