Health department officials in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu, have issued a red alert to all the primary health centres, private and government hospitals following the outbreak of Nipah virus in Kerala. The alert has been issued to more than 450 hospitals in these two districts and have been asked to check if any patient has the symptom similar to brain fever. Officials have also appealed to the public, not to panic in this condition.
A circular has been sent to 141 private hospitals, 11 government hospitals and 42 primary health centres in the district. They have been asked to keep an alert of patients who are admitted with strange or severe fever and should report immediately to the health department officials and the district administration.
