In a recent decision, the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) has suspended two doctors—a surgeon and an anesthesiologist—for three months after finding them guilty of professional negligence in a bariatric surgery case that resulted in a patient’s death. The council’s order, issued on September 18, specifies that the doctors will not be permitted to practice medicine in any form within Tamil Nadu during the suspension period. The case traces back to April 2024, when an IT professional underwent bariatric surgery at a private hospital in Pallavaram, Chennai.
