Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disease that manifests as anemia, infection, pain crises, and other major health issues. When medical issues like acute pain crises can't be treated at home, children and adults with SCD frequently need treatment in the emergency department (ED) of a hospital or clinic.
