Eight women have died after undergoing sterilisation surgery at a health camp organised by the government in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Thirty other women were admitted to hospital and doctors have said several are in a serious condition. Officials have denied negligence, but villagers allege the surgeries were done hurriedly.

According to them, 83 sterilisation sergeries were performed by doctor and his assistant in just 6 hours  This is how things can go wrong for wrong incentives at policy level. Health workers are given incentives based on number of surgeries performed instead of doing it right.
