Case presentation A 76-year-old female presented to the emergency department with complaints of pain in the left thigh and hip along with swelling for five days. Medical history She had a history of chronic left-leg sciatic pain that led to a fall two days before the onset of these symptoms. She was also diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent a laparoscopic anterior colorectal resection eight years ago. Physical examination The patient was found to be tachycardic and delusional. She was afebrile but had leukocytosis.

She was also noted to have significant crepitus to the left thigh and knee.
