In the winter of 2014, I shifted to Gurugram from Kashmir for joining my work in one of the hospitals. As I was looking for an apartment, I was told by a friend to see this owner of a three-story building. In the evening, I went there. I knocked at the door. A pleasant elderly lady, probably in the mid-sixties-opened the door. After wishing me Namaste, she directed me to sit in. She offered me a glass of water. She asked me where from I was.
On mentioning Kashmir, she became happy to hear that. She had visited Kashmir about 26 years ago for a week as a tourist. She also told me how beautiful Gulmarg was then (which still is). She had all the praise for the beauty of Kashmir. She also remembered few names she had interacted with in Kashmir. I still remember how lively she was. I could not take her apartment for rent, as it was the top (2nd) floor. I was looking for a first floor…
