Donovanosis, also known as granuloma inguinale , is a sexually transmitted gram-negative bacterial disease characterized by genital ulcers. These ulcers initially start as painless nodules, which later erupt into highly vascular ulcerative lesions on the genitals or perineum without regional lymphadenopathy. The infection is not always restricted to the genitals; it can also spread into the pelvis and disseminate to intra-abdominal organs, bones, or the mouth.
This infectious disease is endemic to some tropical countries like India, Papua New Guinea, the Caribbean, southern Africa, and central Australia. Attempt this PlexiQuiz to test your knowledge of Donovanosis!
