Geriatric division of AIIMS, New Delhi has conducted an experiment which showed walking with two sticks i.e. Nordic Walking (NW) can be a better option for geriatrics in maintaining fitness . Most elderly people have weak muscles, they become susceptible to many infections, and their immunity weakens. Daily walking or exercise is sometimes difficult for them.
Hence, the AIIMS geriatric division came up with an idea of experimenting with NW which is a form of walking where you carry two sticks in both hands for support. According to the doctors, nordic walking covers whole body exercise and uses muscles in continuous and reciprocal movement.
