A group of researchers from Boston University has studied inflammatory cytokine profiles of COVID-19-infected women and their babies. Although clinical evidence suggests that a mother infected with SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy does not transmit the infection to her child, there is little information available about immune activation and inflammation in response to SARS-CoV-2 that can potentially harm the developing fetus, its growth, particularly its brain development and cognitive function later in life.
