Recently, Favipiravir , an antiviral drug for COVID19 has been approved in Kenya on "Compassionate use" basis. Favipiravir acts by inhibiting RdRp enzyme, thereby halting viral replication of SARS CoV2. In order to educate physicians on clinical evidence available as well it's therapeutic place in COVID19, the Kenya Association of Physicians (KAP) invited me talk on the subject on 25th Sept,2020.
Clinical evidence indicate that Favipiravir provides a faster clinical cure as well as viral clearance. This educational initiative of KAP will go a long way in the safe and rational use of Favipiravir by physicians.
