Contact dermatitis (CD) is common in the general population, with a point prevalence of hand dermatitis of 9.7% and incidence of 5.5–8.5/1,000 person years. The Clinical Standards Department’s Health and Work Development Unit (HWDU) at the Royal College of Physicians provides national guidelines for diagnosis, management and prevention of occupational contact dermatitis. The current article describes the recommendations of this national guideline . Among patients of working age, occupation can be an important risk factor.
