Apicectomy is a minor surgery performed to save at-risk teeth and minimize complications by removing the root tip of a tooth. When large through-and-through lesions are filled with bone graft material during an apicectomy, they heal more quickly and better. Demineralized and mineralized graft materials have different effects on apicectomy. In some cases, the periapical or periradicular lesions may influence the outcome of apical surgery.

As a result, regenerative techniques paired with apical surgery are recommended depending on the type of periradicular lesions.
