Elastography is a recently developed ultrasound technique applicable to various medical specialties. It provides information on the physical properties of soft tissues in the context of physiologic and pathologic alterations. This article outlines the new applications of elastography in clinical dermatology. Estimation of the elasticity or rigidity of tissues facilitates early, noninvasive monitoring and treatment of inflammatory and tumor processes.
