27 year old male admitted in asain institute of medical sciences, Faridabad on 3rd july 2014 with complaints of not passing stools since 4-5 days, no flatus, nausea, vomiting. Routine investigations showed hb-9.5, tlc-1800, platelet-24000, es r-34, kft,lft normal, pt/inr-normal, apt-22.3, serum amylase-88,reticulocyte count-0.8, hiv 1 n 2- negative. In view of low hb and platelets- iron studies were done which revealed serum iron-120, ferritin-322, vitamin b12-- 167 thyroid profile normal, malaria parasite and dengue serology negative… Peripheral smear showed microcytic to normocytic normochromic rbcs with anisocytosis, few ovalocytes and tear drop cels, scattered macrocytes also seen, platelets reduced, wbcs- leucopenia..
