Due to high demand , weight loss drugs, particularly semaglutide, are increasingly being manufactured and marketed illegally . A recent report has revealed that six lesser-known companies worldwide are producing lower-cost versions of semaglutide injections and semaglutide-based drugs, four of which are based in Asia. One of these companies, a little-known Bangladeshi pharmaceutical firm, manufactures and exports two low-cost versions of semaglutide.
These drugs have been approved for sale within Bangladesh, and authorities have permitted their export provided the receiving countries approve them. These generic semaglutide drugs cost approximately $60 per month, in contrast to the authorized semaglutide in the USA, which costs about $650 per month.
