The National Health Authority (NHA) has decided that the expenses of COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment will be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana . The decision has been taken due to a surge in community transmission of coronavirus in several states. As per the NHA's decision, diagnostic testing under private hospitals will be free of cost for patients from economically lower backgrounds . Moreover, the expenses required for isolation of suspected cases and treatment will also be covered under the viral infection packages.
The NHA has also planned a few special packages for the treatment of respiratory distress in more serious patients. It has proposed the same to Niti Aayog and asked for a decision within two days.
