A lady of 42 years got admitted in the ward because she was having urticaria including itching for the past 3 years and has seen a number of Dermatologists with no relief. It was a daily occurrence with difficulty in sleeping due to itching. As a Physician, I have investigated for possible hidden malignancy with no positive results. Deworming was done already with no effect. But it was repeated with no effect.

Since calcium gluconate was given as an IV preparation some 3 decades ago by Dermatologists. I was using the Calcium injection as intramuscular preparation and got good results in refractory urticaria previously some years ago. Using this knowledge, I have estimated both serum total calcium and also ionised calcium and found both were below normal in this patient.
