A team of doctors from the Bahrain Specialist Hospital used a novel technique to save a 50-year-old man suffering from blocked kidneys and renal failure. The patient had been diagnosed with two large kidney stones (size of one stone: 2cm, size of other stone 6-7 cm). Furthermore, he reported pain in his lower abdomen and loss of appetite. On presentation at Bahrain Hospital, the team of doctors decided to carry out a complete endoscopic approach for the treatment of kidney stones.

The conventional treatment used for such kidney stone patients is often associated with increased risk of bleeding and poses further damage to the kidneys. However, in this case, the doctors used a technique, known as Laser lithotripsy which uses laser energy to break down larger stones using the endoscopic approach.
