A global pharmaceutical company has recently received emergency use authorization (EUA) for baricitinib in the treatment of COVID-19. The approval was granted by the central drugs standard control organization (CDSCO). Baricitinib is recommended for use in combination with Remdesivir. Last year, the combination had been approved for EUA by the USFDA.

A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine evaluated the effect of baricitinib and remdesivir compared to remdesivir alone in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. In a multi-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, a total of 1033 patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive baricitinib plus remdesivir or remdesivir alone. Baricitinib plus remdesivir reduced the recovery time and improved the clinical status among patients receiving high-flow oxygen or noninvasive ventilation than remdesivir alone.…
