Thyroid nodule / Nodular goitre - Any enlargement of the thyroid is known as goitre. Nodular enlargement of the thyroid is quite a common entity. It may be neoplastic, autoimmune, infective or due to hyperthyroidism. Neoplasm may be benign or malignant. Malignant tumors may be well differentiated or undifferentiated.
Diagnosis is established by detailed history, thyroid function tests (T3, T4 & TSH) FNAC, T99 Thyroid scan, USG, Thyroid antibody test (to determine the type of thyroiditis). Treatment depends upon the proper diagnosis. Early treatment reduces mortality & morbidity.
