In India, about 550 million people, that is half the country’s population, require some form of visual correction. In the coming years things might make a drastic change. Perfect eyesight may soon be surpassed without the help of contact lenses or glasses. There if a forthcoming technology which intends to provide patients with eyesight that is three times better than the 20/20 vision. Details of this work were presented to American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s annual meeting.
Replacing the need for corrective lenses would change how these visually impaired people see the world. It takes an 8 minute long surgery to immediately correct patient’s eyesight, no matter how poor the vision is.
